If you land at Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) and want to go straight to Gudauri, request one journey from the arrivals hall to your accommodation address rather than a generic “Tbilisi–Gudauri” ride. Give the provider your flight, the number and length of ski or snowboard bags and whether you are staying in New or Old Gudauri, then check the Roads Department’s restriction notices on the day you travel. This guide is for skiers, snowboarders and families arriving in Georgia in winter.

An airport start is a different journey
Georgia’s national tourism site places Gudauri about 120 km from Tbilisi and describes the drive from the city as usually around 2–2.5 hours. That figure starts in Tbilisi. OrbiTrip’s page for the airport route gives its own estimate of about 140 km and about 2.5 hours from TBS; treat both as planning estimates, not arrival guarantees, because traffic, weather and stops change the time.
Shared transport does not remove the airport leg. The national tourism site describes minivans (marshrutkas) that leave from the city in high season, so from TBS you would first have to reach their departure point in Tbilisi. The seasonal Gudauri route in Georgian Bus’s published FAQ connects Gudauri with Kutaisi International Airport; it does not describe a service from Tbilisi Airport.
Plan around your landing time
Tell the provider your flight number and scheduled landing, not only a pickup time. Ask in writing how long the driver waits after landing and whether that waiting is included in the price, especially if checked-in ski or board bags could add time after you leave passport control.
After a night or early-morning flight, decide deliberately between driving up straight away and spending a night in Tbilisi first. The tourism site warns that the final serpentine stretch into the alpine zone is challenging and can be dangerous under heavy snow. If you go straight up, give the operator room to adjust the departure if conditions change, and do not book a fixed-time activity for the same morning.
Describe ski luggage precisely
| Item | Tell the provider |
|---|---|
| Ski or snowboard bags | Number of bags and the length of the longest one in centimetres. |
| Boot bags and helmets | Number of separate bags, so they are not forgotten in the space calculation. |
| Suitcases | Number and size, including cabin bags. |
| Passengers | Adults, children and any child seats, which also take space. |
A long bag can change the vehicle you need even when the number of passengers is small. Ask the provider to confirm the vehicle class and that every bag fits inside the car or its luggage compartment. If the answer depends on the actual car, get that confirmation before you travel, not at the kerb.
Give the exact address in Gudauri
“Gudauri” is not a single drop-off point. The national tourism site notes that most ski lifts are in New Gudauri and that guests staying in Old Gudauri may need additional transport to reach them. Send the name of your hotel or apartment block, its address and a map pin, and say which part of the resort it is in.
If you rent an apartment, ask the host where a car can stop and how you collect keys late in the evening. Pass this on to the driver with the booking, together with the host’s contact number if they agree to share it.
Read winter road notices for the right section
The Roads Department of Georgia publishes road restrictions and restorations on its official restrictions page and lists a hotline, 032 2 31 30 76. Check it on the day you travel and ask your driver for their own assessment. We checked that the page was available on 29 October 2026; this article does not report current road status.
Past winter notices reported by Georgia’s public broadcaster 1TV, citing the Roads Department, concerned the Gudauri–Kobi section of the Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi road: a ban on trucks and semi-trucks in November 2023 and a temporary closure to all vehicles in December 2024. Kobi lies beyond Gudauri on the way to Stepantsminda, so a notice for that section is not automatically a notice about the road up to the resort. Read each notice’s exact wording, because other sections or conditions can be named.
Match your dates to the season
The national tourism site describes Gudauri’s ski season as running from early December to mid-April, with the end of December and the first half of January as the busiest period. Opening depends on the season and snow; on 29 October 2026 we did not find an official 2026/27 opening announcement, so check the resort’s current information before fixing non-refundable dates around opening or closing weeks.
For New Year and early January arrivals, book transport at the same time as accommodation and confirm it again a few days before your flight.
A request you can send
Replace the brackets before sending this to your chosen provider. Do not include passport numbers or payment-card details in a quote request.

Compare offers for this exact journey
Compare private transfer services, a rental car if you are comfortable driving mountain roads in winter, or an overnight stop in Tbilisi followed by onward transport. Use the same airport, address, flight time, luggage and vehicle requirements for every quote.
OrbiTrip is a Georgia booking platform under common ownership with this publication. Its airport-to-Gudauri page states that waiting is free with no time limit, that there is no prepayment and that payment is made to the driver; these are the provider’s own terms, not our independent test, and its passenger terms apply. This guide does not establish that it is the cheapest or best option.
